Welcome to the USS Voltaire
Delve into the year 2386 and wander the corridors of the USS Voltaire. Begrudgingly going where her senior officers point her, she paves a delicate path through discovery and diplomacy and assists in the security patrol of the outter regions of the quadrant. Reese MacCormack is a simple individual, sharp and intelligent but controlled by his harsh temper and fluctuating emotions. Fortunately for his crew he has a solid gut instinct and has yet to steer them into deep trouble.

We cannot all be heroes. As members of Starfleet, we must be consistent in our tasking and find pride in our work but it is also greatly understood that people - no matter which species or race they belong to - are flawed and therefore must adapt to their situation by offering what they can. Here on the Voltaire we promote emotive writing, deeper characterisation and storylines that seem to provoke a sense of grittiness and realism that will project a sense of the writer through their characters.

This sim encourages players to spend their time developing their characters and pushes them to give their upmost to the storyline as often as possible. It requires a stronger and more open approach to simming and offers something a little different from standard Starship procedure and generic playing. You're here to have fun and experiment with more freedom in your writing.
Take a look around and scour for the position that you think may suit you. Everyone is significant no matter where they serve so potential players are encouraged to consider assistant departmental roles and civillian roles instead of only wishing to play a senior officer.

All,
I owe each and every one of you a massive apology for my lack of activity over the past couple of weeks. Whilst it has been generally inexcusable there is a reason behind it that I'll share with you just now.
In general I don't keep too well, I suffer from acute anorexia and have problems with the amount of protein and nutrients that I take in. Unfortunately this means that when I get sick - I get really sick. So a simple head cold becomes something much more serious and my body gives in with general tasks as it puts all it's effort into boosting my immune system. So when the flu struck me last week I got very ill very quickly.
I soldiered on for a few days before I eventually had to go to my doctors in the hope of getting an antibiotic or something but the horrible woman decided I needed hospital treatment. Thankfully she made a wise move because when I was checked into hospital I had to be treated for pneumonia and was confined to a bed for a good couple of days having my lungs drained.
This has been a particularly bad turn guys, worse than usual but I'm getting back to normal and I can begin to put my efforts back into simming around my work. I HAVE had to quit smoking (again) unfortunately, that was very much the culprit behind my dying lungs and I'm glad to have thrown my last packet away.
I'm really sorry for the inconvenience I've caused and for the big lapse in the writing. I can only thank you guys for hanging on all this time and patiently waiting for your tags. I'm also quite pleased with the progress the staff briefing joint post has made. We have a ship with some excellent writers here.
I'll be adding to it tonight and pushing it along then two of you can expect tags from me. I'm going for a nap just now but about midnight I'll be updating and catching up with the other sim I play on.
I'm giving us a couple of days to get caught up and then I'm going to steer us towards moving on to the asteroid field.
Once again, thank you very much guys.

Hey folks,
So we've had our hello's and we've had some time to get to know one another out of character, it's time to bring all that together and start writing some stuff in character as a crew.
I'd really like to wrap up this preliminary mission because it tends to drag out longer than it has to. I appreciate that we could be seeing new applications for crew positions over the coming weeks but it'd be much better if we could get underway and start moving towards mission one.
I'm going to set up a staff briefing post that might be a long or short one. No matter, those involved are all expected to tag appropriately as per their assignment perameters but it would be awesome if we could still keep it kind of light and flowing, keep some good dialogue in there. I've not set up full grounds for the mission, though I know what's going to happen central plot-wise, so there's room for you all to manouevre.
We'll be going to survey some asteroids! Yaaay!
To be fair these are asteroids out in the middle of nowhere that have rarely been examined so there is a lot of room for improvisation with the science which you are all invited to implement to help push the story onward.
The "Radius VII Cluster" is an ancient asteroid field, formerly a planet with a civilised race inhabiting it. Something mysterious happened, it exploded and kaboom - asteroid field. Because it's out in the slight extensions of Federation space not many people pay much attention to it but strange energy sources and readings nearby are not uncommon. We've been sent to check it out as stage one of our mission (which has five survey assignments) and to gather what data we can.
So I'll set up the joint post - which will be introduced half way through MacCormack's opening briefing towards the staff - and you guys can tag in with your own interpretations and some snappy dialogue. Or whatever comes to mind :)
We'll see how it goes!
